Delta ( Δ ) is the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet. the frame mounting points hold the looks of a Delta/triangle and the construction of the frame is box/rectangle shape i.e.Cross-section of the frame is the box /Hence the name DELTA box frame.

Delta box is a type of diamond frame created by Yamaha motors, this frame delivers superior rigidity balance. This type of frame is currently used in YAMAHA’s R series of sports models.(R3 India does not share the delta box frame). The engine is mounted on rigid supports; one on the head side and two on the case side; so that the engine itself becomes a structural member contributing to body strength and rigidity. The engine’s low vibration makes rigid supports possible, These characteristics of this frame made it suitable for R badging and used in Moto GP bikes.

The frame achieves excellent torsional rigidity by making the lines connecting the top and bottom of the head pipe*1 to the rear swingarm pivot*2 as straight as possible.
